What is nutritional therapy?

It’s using food to heal

The aim of nutritional therapy is to educate, inspire and empower you so you understand how what you eat, as well as when you eat, could be causing unwanted symptoms such as fatigue, bloating, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), PMS and weight gain. Food is not just fuel for energy. We each need the right mix of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals and vitamins for optimal health. We’ve all heard the term “we are what we eat”, and it is absolutely true that our diet can have an enormous impact on our health. Just as a poor diet can cause havoc to our body systems, a nutritious diet can help you to feel great and full of vitality.

It’s addressing the cause not the symptom

Nutritional therapy is not just about food. For example, even the best diet in the world may not resolve your health issues if you have digestive problems and you are not absorbing nutrients efficiently. During your first consultation, I take your case history and ask questions about your symptoms, your diet and your lifestyle. This helps me to identify any underlying factors which could be affecting your health such as poor digestion or liver function, or a hormone imbalance. My aim is always to get to the root cause of your health issues rather than just treating the symptoms. This means further investigation may be required via testing such as stool or hormone tests - this can provide valuable information on what is going on inside the body.

It’s personalised, practical nutrition advice

We are all unique and one diet which suits one person may not suit another. I aim to provide clients with a practical eating plan tailored to meet their specific health needs. I also personalise each client’s plan to suit their lifestyle such as busy work and family commitments, budget, and food likes and dislikes. This makes the changes realistic and achievable.

It’s motivation and support

A nutritional therapist can provide the ongoing guidance and support to keep you motivated to stick to your nutrition programme. Most clients find that once they get going they feel so much better that this is motivation in itself to continue to eat well for the long-term.

It’s delicious healthy food

Food is to be enjoyed and there is no reason why healthy food should be boring. Shopping for good food has become much easier in the UK especially in London with its fantastic delis, farmers’ markets, health food shops and excellent supermarket ranges. Even if you have to avoid some foods, I will provide plenty of suggestions for lots of other foods you can still enjoy.
